TV Series Returning to Us This January
Showtime’s longest-running scripted series Shameless returns to their network with the second half of their ninth season on January 20. The show has been on hiatus for almost three months, and loyal fans are excited to see the last five episodes of the season. Viewership for this show has been steady for almost nine years, which is rare for a network show.
These last five episodes will be series lead Emmy Rossum’s last as she announced that she would be leaving after the ninth season. Series regular Cameron Monaghan is also departing, so it’s possible that if there is a 10th season, the Gallagher family will look quite different.
Broad City, Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson’s love letter to New York City, returns for its fifth and final season on January 24. While the show is undoubtedly carried by the two leads, they’ve featured a ton of amazing guest stars like Seth Rogen, Kumail Nanjiani, Alan Alda, and even Hillary Clinton. Expect to see a few of them back in the fifth season, plus hopefully some new faces.
This won’t be the last you see of Glazer and Jacobson as they’ve already signed a deal with Viacom to produce three other projects, including one with Ilana’s brother Eliot Glazer in the lead.
Final season, babyyyy. It's sad. But also happy. Watch it. pic.twitter.com/atodfADPkm

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Another sitcom that’s keeping its run short is Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, the Tina Fey-penned comedy that premiered on Netflix in 2015. The show’s fourth and final season will return on January 25, with the release of the final seven episodes. Hopefully, they’ll be able to top the ridiculous documentary-within-a-show episode “Party Monster: Scratching the Surface”, which featured Jon Hamm as DJ Slizzard.
Leads Ellie Kemper and Tituss Burgess have been nominated for Primetime Emmys for every single season but have yet to win. Maybe this last season will change their luck.
