The Land of Giants: The Largest Athletes in Sports History
9. Musashimaru Kōyō
Sumo wrestler Musashimaru Kōyō is one of the only athletes born outside of Japan to ascend to the highest ranks of the Japan Sumo Association. He has a stellar career that began in 1989 and ended with his retirement in 2003. His career was relatively injury-free, considering the aggressive physical nature of sumo, and he was a consistent fan favorite.
Kōyō stands at 6 feet 3.5 inches tall, and weighs in at a whopping 518 pounds, which combined with a low center of gravity and excellent balance made him a strong competitor. He founded his own sumo stable, or training camp, in 2013.
