The Land of Giants: The Largest Athletes in Sports History
11. Zdeno Chára
Zdeno Chára is the only hockey player on this list, and standing at 6 feet 9 inches tall, he’s the tallest player ever to play in the National Hockey League. Add some skates to his feet, and it’s easy to see why he’s so intimidating on the ice.
Currently, Chára plays for the Boston Bruins, and serves as defenseman, as well as the team captain. He’s widely thought to have the hardest slapshot in the NHL since he shot a goal that clocked in at 108.8 mph at the 2012 All-Star Game. Born in Czechoslovakia in 1977, Chára is also one of the oldest players in the league, and most likely won’t see too many more seasons before he retires.
