Early Odds of Each Team Winning the 2016 Stanley Cup

15. San Jose Sharks 35-1

Other than the Ottawa Senators, the San Jose Sharks may be the first team on this list that has a realistic shot at contending for the Stanley Cup. The only thing holding back the Sharks from being one of the top teams in the NHL is their losing record at home. There is not much of a home ice advantage in the NHL playoffs, but it is still a little discouraging to see a great team losing more games at home than they win.

14. Detroit Red Wings 33-1

Hockey fans know to never discount the Detroit Red Wings when it comes to the Stanley Cup, but it is still hard to see them make a deep run in the playoffs this year. The reputation of the Red Wings is bring down their odds, so they are not a great value bet at this point. They are going to make the playoffs again, but there are just far too many teams with more talent.

13. Pittsburgh Penguins 22-1

The Pittsburgh Penguins have the exact same amount of points as the Red Wings right now, but they have drastically lower odds. Sidney Crosby is no longer close to being the best player in the league, which greatly hurts the Penguins chances of contending for the Stanley Cup. Nothing suggests that they will not make the playoffs, but there are better places to put your money than on the Penguins at 22-1 odds.
