Early Odds of Each Team Winning the 2016 Stanley Cup

18. Ottawa Senators 45-1

The best bet in the NHL may be the Ottawa Senators based on their current odds. The Senators finished last season with 99 points, and they are currently sitting with the fifth best record in the Eastern Conference. Ottawa is clearly an improving team, but their odds have let to display this improvement. All the evidence suggests that the Senators are going to continue their great play, so their odds will do nothing but drop as the season progresses.

17. Boston Bruins 40-1

The Boston Bruins are no longer the top team in the league like they were two seasons ago, but they still have a team good enough to make a deep run in the playoffs. The only thing that will hold the Bruins back from a serious shot at the Stanley Cup is the depth of the Eastern Conference. The Bruins need Tuuka Rask to become one of the top goalies in the NHL again if they want a realistic shot at the title, but that does not look like it is possible at this point in his career.

16. Winnipeg Jets 35-1

Every team that wins the Stanley Cup was propelled by a hot goalie, but that is the weakest position for the Winnipeg Jets at the moment. Giving up 80 goals through 25 games is not good enough to cut it in the playoffs. Despite giving up a plethora of goals, the Jets are still only a few points out of a playoff spot in the Western Conference. They could win a playoff series if they step up their defense, but it is hard to count on a team to win the Stanley Cup when they are weak in the net.
