Breaking Down Marvel’s Fresh Start

Tony Stark: Iron Man

One of Marvel’s most exciting and dynamic superheroes is Iron Man — his story speaks to something that is unique about this moment in history. When technology rules our lives, how can we ensure that our innovations are beneficial? Iron Man is one of the only superheroes whose powers are his technological genius and creativity, and this new series will follow Tony Stark as he continues to push the boundaries of technology even further.

Creators Dan Slott and Valerio Schiti promise tons of amazing new Iron Man suits, as well as a Stark that goes back to his roots. The first comic of the series goes on sale June 20th.

Captain America

Another one of the Fresh Start series that’s written by author Ta-Nehisi Coates is the upcoming Captain America series, which follows Steve Rogers through the aftermath of Hydra’s takeover of the United States.

Coates gives Captain America a fresh look and brings the character into a new context. For many years, Captain America has come to represent American nationalism, but Coates hopes to put more emphasis on the superhero’s egalitarian ideals, rather than his hardline defense of all things American.

Written by Ta-Nehisi Coates, with art by Leinil Yu, the first issue will — very appropriately — be available on the Fourth of July.

The Amazing Spider-Man

For fans of Spider-Man, the new series The Amazing Spider-Man will offer a lot of new stories, new characters, a new love interest, and even a new villain! Fans will also get to discover a good amount of new information about Peter Parker’s past. One key bit of information is that Mephisto, who broke up Peter’s marriage to Mary Jane Watson, may play a role in this new series. All of this new information about Peter’s past will come out as he’s trying to protect New York City from an alien invasion.

Due out July 11th, this new series is written by Nick Spencer and artist Ryan Ottley.
