12 Movies to Anticipate in 2019
This year, dreams will come true for millions of fans around the world as old favorites are rebooted, sequels are released, and next chapters in multi-movie universes unfold. It’s hard to remember a time when we’ve been this excited about movies that haven’t even been released yet. Here are some of the most anticipated movies coming out in 2019.
1. Avengers: Endgame
The trailer for Avengers: Endgame, which was released on December 7, 2018, was the first time that the movie’s title was confirmed. The trailer also set a world record for the most viewed trailer within the first 24 hours of release, with 289 million views.
The trailer answered some questions but inspired many more. The marketing for this film has so far been almost entirely fan-generated. Marvel execs have been reluctant to send actors out to do press events because there’s so much uncertainty over the fate of several popular characters who ostensibly died at the end of Avengers: Infinity War.
Avengers: Endgame will be released April 26, 2019.
2. Captain Marvel
Another much-anticipated Marvel movie that’s scheduled for release in 2019 is Captain Marvel — the very first female-led film of the entire MCU. It will be released on March 8, about a month and a half before Avengers: Endgame.
Captain Marvel will establish an origin story for Captain Marvel and will star Larson as the titular character along with Samuel L. Jackson, Djimon Hounson, Lee Pace, and Annette Bening. The first trailer was released to great fanfare in September 2018, with a second coming during Monday Night Football halftime almost two months later. Fans are extremely excited for this film and are hopeful that it represents a new phase of inclusivity and representation within the MCU.
3. Star Wars: Episode IX
Even though there hasn’t even been an official title released, fans are already foaming at the mouth in anticipation of the newest Star Wars movie. Instead of being placated with a side story, 2019 will mark the release of the franchise’s ninth installment and the final film in the third trilogy, which is rumored to be called Son of Darkness.
The film, which will be released in December 2019, features many of the same characters that we’ve been seeing since the beginning of the third trilogy, like Rey, Finn, and Poe Dameron. Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren will also feature as the new Supreme Leader of the First Order. It’s rumored that the Son of Darkness subtitle refers to him.
