11 Best Fictional Mothers of All Time
Carol Brady from The Brady Bunch
One of most important TV sitcoms of all time, The Brady Bunch, featured actress Florence Henderson as Carol Brady, the mother everyone wished they had. She was patient and loving with her three daughters and three stepsons, and provided a stable presence in the home while taking on tons of different jobs in her community. She was, at various times, a writer, sculptor, PTA chair, and activist, but always made sure that her six kids came first.
Maria Von Trapp from The Sound of Music
Maria Von Trapp is another stepmom character who turned out to be one of the best movie mothers of all time. The lonely nun-in-training who was transformed into Mrs. Von Trapp by the end of the movie proves that the myth of the evil stepmother is a thing of the past! She took seven motherless children, and by the end of the movie transformed them not only into outgoing and engaging young people, but also made sure that they knew that they were a family who could rely on each other. She listened to their concerns, and brought them together in a way that no other person could.
Lorelai Gilmore from Gilmore Girls
This example comes at a good time, as people who watched the original Gilmore Girls series eagerly anticipate the 4-episode continuation coming out on Netflix some time in 2016. People are eagerly awaiting the reunion of Rory and her mom Lorelai, and are excited to see what their relationship is like now that Rory is all grown up.
Lorelai and Rory’s relationship was always one of the best parts of the show — as a young single mom, Lorelai always knew how to relate to her daughter, but wasn’t afraid to discipline her when necessary. Fiercely independent Lorelai does a great job at raising Rory to be a strong woman, but one not afraid to accept help when necessary.
